2x16 Alphanumeric LCD Displays are dirt cheap these days. Hence, they become very popular among electronics DIYers. There is one potential problem though when using one with your microcontroller (gizDuino/Arduino) projects- they require quite a number of I/O's - seven to be exact. Once you have installed an LCD, you are left with just a few I/Os for other uses.

The I2C interface board installed in this LCD eliminates this limiting factor. It connects to your microcontroller using just 2 I/O ports assigned to I2C, leaving you with 5 more I/Os to spare.
